Learn what to do after a hit and run accident in Pennsylvania and why insurance coverage and evidence are so important.

Hit and Run Accidents Require Fast Action

A hit and run accident can leave an injured person with more questions than answers. When the other driver leaves the scene, it may be harder to identify who caused the crash and what insurance coverage is available.

The first step after a hit and run is to call 911 and report the accident. A police report can become important documentation for both the investigation and any insurance claim.

If possible, collect any details you can about the fleeing vehicle, including the make, model, color, license plate number, direction of travel, and any visible damage.

Nearby cameras may also be important. Businesses, homes, traffic cameras, dash cameras, and parking lot surveillance systems may have captured the crash or the fleeing vehicle.

In many hit and run cases, uninsured motorist coverage may become important. Whether that coverage applies depends on the injured person’s policy and the facts of the accident.

Medical treatment should not be delayed. Injuries such as concussions, neck injuries, back injuries, and internal injuries may not be obvious right away.
