Learn how large truck blind spots can contribute to serious accidents and what evidence may help determine fault.

Truck Blind Spots Can Lead to Serious No-Zone Accidents

Large trucks have significant blind spots, sometimes called no-zones, around the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle.

When a passenger vehicle is in one of these areas, the truck driver may have limited visibility. This can increase the risk of unsafe lane changes, sideswipe crashes, underride collisions, and turning accidents.

Blind spot accidents often happen during lane changes, merges, highway exits, and right turns at intersections.

Truck drivers are trained to check mirrors, signal properly, maintain awareness of surrounding traffic, and avoid sudden movements. Other vehicle drivers should also avoid lingering in areas where a truck driver may not be able to see them.

Determining fault in a blind spot accident may require dash camera video, vehicle damage analysis, witness statements, mirror positioning, truck camera systems, and roadway evidence.

A blind spot does not automatically excuse a truck driver from responsibility. Drivers operating large commercial vehicles must account for the known limitations of those vehicles.
