What to do When You're Injured on a Construction Site in Pennsylvania

Construction sites are among the most dangerous workplaces in Pennsylvania. Workers are exposed to heavy equipment, elevated structures, electrical systems, and hazardous materials on a daily basis.

The most common causes of construction site injuries include falls from heights, being struck by falling objects, electrocution, being caught in or between machinery, and equipment malfunctions. These types of accidents are often referred to as the “fatal four” hazards in the construction industry.

Injuries from construction accidents can be catastrophic. Victims may suffer traumatic brain injuries, paralysis, amputations, burns, or permanent disability.

Even when safety protocols are in place, negligence can occur. This may involve failure to provide proper safety equipment, inadequate training, unsafe scaffolding, or violations of Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.

Construction workers injured on the job may be eligible for workers’ compensation benefits. However, in certain situations, a third party may also be responsible. That third party could include a subcontractor, equipment manufacturer, property owner, or maintenance company.

Proper documentation of the scene, safety violations, and equipment condition can play a vital role in determining who or what is liable in construction injury cases.

Understanding the layers of responsibility on a construction site is essential for workers who suffer injuries while doing their job.
